2011 Tulip Festival

Macro

Pink Lips

The subject of this photo is meant to represent the beauty and wonder within a flower. Flowers happen to be one of the most joyful, natural things in life. The tulip festival offers many different varieties and colours of tulips, and the meaning is far more important in expressing this natural beauty. It is important to capture this beauty with photographs. And this is why I look the picture of one of the most beautiful pink tulips at the festival.

In choosing my composition components, I decided to start by using the rule of thirds as well as the "O" rule by placing the most important part of the picture in the top left "O". Then I followed by making that flower stand out more by sharpening it, and leaving the rest of the picture behind it blurry. Lastly, the colour of my photo is meant to stand out. I loved how bright and fun the pink flower was, so I decided it would be perfect because it makes the flower stand out and be noticed right away.

The technical parts of my photo were revolving around setting the shutter speed at a normal. This is because the flower was not moving. Then, I adjusted the aperture in order to create the focus on the single flower. After this, but using the focal right I was easily able to go close up to the flower, focus in on only the one, leaving the rest blurry.

I really love this photo because I love flowers, and my favourite colour is pink. I like how I was able to put all my knowledge together to work with the camera and get a really nice image. If I were to do this over, I would probably take it from the top! It was a beautiful flower inside as well, and it would've been nice to get that as well.

Sprouting Love

This is a picture I took when I was at the tulip festival. I love weddings, and to see this made me feel the need to capture this as a special moment. This is a just married couple that was taking a walk in the park where the tulip festival was taking place last Saturday, May the 21st. They were taking wedding pictures near the flowers, as their wedding party followed. The couple looked so happy and in love. As the bridal party followed, so did I to get a special picture. She looked very beautiful, it was so nice to see.

Life in Color

The subject of my picture is meant to advertise the tulip festival. The meaning, however, is much deeper. The tulip festival brings Canadians together in celebration of the beauty of nature. It is also in Canada's capital city, which makes us proud to hold such a popular event.

For the composition components, I was able to use the framing. By taking my first picture of the sign, I left much room around it, which enabled me to easily photoshop the access room around it in order to place it on the background of the photo (the tulip festival). Lastly, the colours of the things in the photo are purposely this way. The sign is a more mellow colour, and the tulips in the background are bright. This is so the sign (which is close up in the front) tells the information, and the main part of the photo (the tulips) are what stand out the most.

For the technical aspects, I made sure the photo was sharp and clear. I did this by using the focusing ring. This makes the picture so much better and clearer, so that there are no blurry areas. Also, the shutter speed is at the norm, because I caught the moment when everything was still. Nothing in the photo was moving fast enough for me to have a low speed.

I really enjoy this photoshop creation. I feel like it is exactly what is asked for in saying that it was meant to advertise the tulip festival. It shows a sign about the event, the actual tulips all around it, and most of all the Canadians coming together with family and friends to take pictures and enjoy the beautiful flowers. If I were to do this again, I would definitely take a picture of a sign that could be more vibrant and exciting. All in all I had a wonderful time there, and am looking forward to going with my family again next year.
