Tutorial

Step 1: First you must open Photoshop
Step 2: Next you must open the two pictures in the album named: PHOTOSHOP CPT. -->File, open, photos (scroll down the side bar), events(at top), photoshop cpt album. Open both pictures, then you must take the flag picture, go to file at the top bar. Click on select all. Copy the picture. Go to your flagpole picture and open a new layer by going over to the layers section and scroll over the little buttons at the bottom until you find the "new layer" button. Once it is opened, click on paste. You now have your flag picture on top of your flagpole picture. Delete the other window with just the flag picture in it.
Step 3: Start off by putting in your background layer as the flag pole. The your first layer would be the flags.
Step 4: Go up the the menu bar at the top of the page, there you will find the "edit" selection. Click this and scroll down to the "transform" button. Once this opens, choose the "scale" option. Now you can move around the layer to any size or shape you want. Fist, make it small. Do this by taking the bottom right corner, and moving it inwards. This is so that the WHOLE picture is visible. Still on the flag layer, begin by using the magic wand tool, turn the tolerance to 40. Once it is at 40, you may start clicking in different areas. Once the area is highlighted, press the delete button. This will get rid of all the access area. *Make sure that you delete every area BUT the Canadian flag.
Step 5: Now that you have deleted all the big pieces, it is time to get rid of all the access small areas that you couldn't get with the magic wand. Click on the eraser. Go up to the top of the page, and make the brush size small. (It can be as small as needed.) Zoom in to the picture, and start eraser all the little pieces of the flag image that have been left behind.
Step 6: Once you have JUST the Canadian flag left, it is time to begin the sizing.
Step 7: Do the same as step 4. Transform the flag so that it is small enough to realistically fit on the pole.
Step 8: Once you have done this, go back to the menu bar and go to transform. Then instead of clicking scale, you now are clicking "rotate".
Step 9: Take the bottom right corner, and rotate the image so that the bottom of the flag is now facing the left.
Step 10: Go back to the transform button, and click on scale. And now move the flag so that it fits on the flagpole. Make sure this is at the top. While it is still selected, transform it so that it becomes wider and the perfect size for the pole. You can do this by pulling the side of the flag out, the bottom and top corners as well.
Step 11: And now the last thing to do is erase the flag behind the Canadian one. To do this, click on the stamp tool.
Step 12: To change the size of the circle, you can do the same thing as you did with the eraser, at the top of the page. Now click "ALT". You should see a "bullseye" symbol. This is going to COPY any area you click on. So, to cover the flag we need to cover it with SKY. Click ALT, click a piece of blue sky, and bring it over the flag. Then click on the parts of the flag you want to cover.
Step 13: Once the flag is covered, you just have to erase all the access parts of the picture. Staying on the flag layer, just take the eraser. Adjust its size, and erase all the lines that you missed.

You are now done, and should have a picture that looks like this:

Scare

Free Falling

For this photo, the meaning is much more than the point of the activity. It is meant to show that anything is possible if you try, and that you can do anything you want if you put your mind to it. Also it is meant to show the freedom you really do have in life, and that you should use it all to your full potential.

For the compositional aspects, I was able to create a strong frame surrounding the falling people. Also, I made sure I included bright colours for the parachuters, so that they would stand out in the blue sky. I also used different sizes for them, so that there were many different tools on the photoshop I was able to incorporate.

For the technical parts, I used the magic wand tool to cut out the people and then place them into the sky. Then I had to use the eraser to zoom in close and straighten all the edges. This made it look as original and "real" as possible. I also shrank and grew the different people and placed them in different areas such as in the back, in the middle together, and in the front.

I definitely enjoy the theme i have chosen. I love the idea of a picture that represents scare. It is very cool, and can catch a lot of peoples attention. If I were to do something different I would probably use incorporate the plane, so that the clear skydiving activity is shown.

2011 Tulip Festival

Macro

Pink Lips

The subject of this photo is meant to represent the beauty and wonder within a flower. Flowers happen to be one of the most joyful, natural things in life. The tulip festival offers many different varieties and colours of tulips, and the meaning is far more important in expressing this natural beauty. It is important to capture this beauty with photographs. And this is why I look the picture of one of the most beautiful pink tulips at the festival.

In choosing my composition components, I decided to start by using the rule of thirds as well as the "O" rule by placing the most important part of the picture in the top left "O". Then I followed by making that flower stand out more by sharpening it, and leaving the rest of the picture behind it blurry. Lastly, the colour of my photo is meant to stand out. I loved how bright and fun the pink flower was, so I decided it would be perfect because it makes the flower stand out and be noticed right away.

The technical parts of my photo were revolving around setting the shutter speed at a normal. This is because the flower was not moving. Then, I adjusted the aperture in order to create the focus on the single flower. After this, but using the focal right I was easily able to go close up to the flower, focus in on only the one, leaving the rest blurry.

I really love this photo because I love flowers, and my favourite colour is pink. I like how I was able to put all my knowledge together to work with the camera and get a really nice image. If I were to do this over, I would probably take it from the top! It was a beautiful flower inside as well, and it would've been nice to get that as well.

Sprouting Love

This is a picture I took when I was at the tulip festival. I love weddings, and to see this made me feel the need to capture this as a special moment. This is a just married couple that was taking a walk in the park where the tulip festival was taking place last Saturday, May the 21st. They were taking wedding pictures near the flowers, as their wedding party followed. The couple looked so happy and in love. As the bridal party followed, so did I to get a special picture. She looked very beautiful, it was so nice to see.

Life in Color

The subject of my picture is meant to advertise the tulip festival. The meaning, however, is much deeper. The tulip festival brings Canadians together in celebration of the beauty of nature. It is also in Canada's capital city, which makes us proud to hold such a popular event.

For the composition components, I was able to use the framing. By taking my first picture of the sign, I left much room around it, which enabled me to easily photoshop the access room around it in order to place it on the background of the photo (the tulip festival). Lastly, the colours of the things in the photo are purposely this way. The sign is a more mellow colour, and the tulips in the background are bright. This is so the sign (which is close up in the front) tells the information, and the main part of the photo (the tulips) are what stand out the most.

For the technical aspects, I made sure the photo was sharp and clear. I did this by using the focusing ring. This makes the picture so much better and clearer, so that there are no blurry areas. Also, the shutter speed is at the norm, because I caught the moment when everything was still. Nothing in the photo was moving fast enough for me to have a low speed.

I really enjoy this photoshop creation. I feel like it is exactly what is asked for in saying that it was meant to advertise the tulip festival. It shows a sign about the event, the actual tulips all around it, and most of all the Canadians coming together with family and friends to take pictures and enjoy the beautiful flowers. If I were to do this again, I would definitely take a picture of a sign that could be more vibrant and exciting. All in all I had a wonderful time there, and am looking forward to going with my family again next year.

Photoshop

A Whole lot of Sunshine

The subject of my photo is meant to focus on the things that best represent me. There are many things that I love, but the things that most make me happy is summer, the beach, swimming, sun, and flowers. I love being on the beach with my sunglasses and Ipod tanning, somewhere tropical and beautiful with the crashing waves behind me. This is why the meaning is very important to me, it all revolves around my favourite things!

The composition choices that I chose were ones in which I thought since I was essentially "creating" the picture, I could do whatever I wanted. This enabled me to be a little bit creative. I placed my body in multiple places, using many different types of framing. If you are focusing on only one of my bodies, it could be all different kinds of it. Otherwise, there are many things for the eyes to attract. Also, by using the rule of thirds, I was able to put my body in many different places. While focusing on the closest pose I put in, it is in the bottom right corner. Some of the eyes in the back were placed on the third line. Since I was able to create the picture, I could do whatever I wanted! Making it easier to accomplish many compositional aspects.

For the technics used in my photos, I obviously was unable to take the photos with the intension of this so when putting them all together, I was able to work with the lighting and shadowing, also all the photos were token in a sharp and clear way. Some closer then others.

This photo mostly represents me in the things I like and also in how I am able to use photoshop. As I was able to incorporate many bodies into one picture, it created a clear idea of how I am able to use this program and all its features. It also shows my growing knowledge about how to use the rule of thirds, lighting, framing, etc. I really enjoy the idea of my photo and what it represents. If I were to do anything else, I would definitely add more things to show who I am and all my interest and what makes me happy.

Earth Day!

Into the Wild

The subject of this photo revolves all around the beauty of our earth. The meaning is far more important though as it shows how we need to appreiciate it more and take care of the earth we are given. This is what we are given, it is Gods creation and the more we take advantage of it, the less beauty we are seeing.

I used the rule of thirds by placing a head in the bottom left corner. Also, I was able to place all the eyes on the lines. The framing I used is more space to the right side to give more room for the nature to show. I also used color to make the girls stand out because I wanted the viewers to see that playing outside can be so much fun! The point of view is split because one girl is on the ground and the other is in the tree!

My models were able to hold still as I snapped the picture, so the shutter spead just sat at a normal. I did however adjust the aperture so that the girl in the front would be clear and everything else would be blurry behind her. This makes the front tree pop, and then the main focus is represented. Then the eyes drag on to the rest of the photo.

My composition choices show that I am now able to properly work the shutter spead andm sperture settings so that my photo is exactly the way I picture it in my head. There wasnt much experimenting because I knew how to officially work the camera and its parts. This also applies for my technical choices.I would definitely keep my idea of the photo the same, I love how the two girls are enjoying nature. If I had to change anything, I would probably not have zoomed in so much and left more of a frame.

Test Roll Assignment

"Though many, we are one body in Christ."

A Helping Hand

The subject and meaning of this photo revolves around the quote above. By showing the students coming together to work on homework, they are putting their ideas together. Then when the solution is come up with, they are all happy and excited. By working together, their different opinions are unfolding to make one final outcome. This shows that when you put ideas together, the final product can be something better than if you were to just do it on your own. Learning from others is really important.

The composition choices revolving around this photo are ones in which are close up. Using the rule of thirds was easy when we put all three heads on the top line. We chose this shade of lighting because it brings out everything that is happening in the picture, not making it too dark or too late. You can distinct every item. We left space in the back so that the viewers would see that it was token in the library. A creative choice that we came up with was "catching it in the moment." We thought it would make the picture more real if we were to catch it when it was really happening.

For the technical aspects, the aperture was 5.5 and shutter speed was 60. We were able to make the focus ring focus perfect so that the picture was very clear. By trying different lighting, we were able to explore the camera and its different parts.

The choice we made in this picture demonstrates our knowledge on how to take a basic picture with an older camera. When choosing the colour, I believe we chose a very good shade. We also were able to focus the camera properly using the focus ring. This enabled us to take a clear picture. The normal shutter speed also played a very important part in this. If I were able to do this again, I believe that I would have maybe made the books around the students a bit more clearer. I would rather them be more visible so then it is more obvious that they are working.

Informal Portrait

Bricked In Blue

"Do not go where the path may lead, instead make your own path and leave a trail."

This photo resembles a very valuable meaning. The brick wall represents the plain, normal world we can sometimes live in and how people believe that you should be like what is on TV and in magazines. With the boy standing in front of it, it resembles how you can be different than the rest of the world. Being yourself is very important, and standing out is sometimes hard with everything going on around you. Each brick is a person who goes with the flow, but the boy in the blue shirt resembles someone who wants to start his own path; by being true to himself.

I chose to place my model in the top left part of the photo. The reason for this was so I could complete the rule of thirds. By placing his eye on the top line as well, I was able to create a strong focus point. For color, his blue shirt stands out and your eyes are drawn straight to it. I used space to create more of a frame on his right side as well. Lastly, I was able to create a very sharp and clear photo by focusing.

I was able to use the camera to get a sharp and focused photo. By focusing on my model, and adjusting the focusing ring, I pinpointed my subject. The depth of field being low enabled me to do this effect as well.

The choices that I made for this photo show that I have a good understanding of the rule of thirds. It also shows that I am able to take a clear photo. The technical choices such as how I used to focusing ring show how I can make a photo very straight-forward and clear. If I were given the chance to re-do this assignment, I would definitely make it more exciting with more props and more colors. I would keep my same model though, and stick with the technical and composition choices. I have learned that it takes concentration and some time to get the perfect picture.
